I’m not a Middle Child myself, but having grown up in a large family, I am sensitive to the peculiarities of this particular breed.

After a few false starts, Agnes finally said, “They should look like middle-aged men.”

The result:

Hippos

I’ll put up another update when I’ve finished the rendering.

Speech Bubbles

These scribbly speech bubbles were initially roughs from an ad campaign we proposed (it was eventually rejected). But since we’re environmentally friendly, my partner kept the drawings in the job bag hoping they’d get recycled again some day. And here they are. Ready to be turned into – maybe – a series of t-shirts.

Hook and Eye

Sometime ago I began tinkering around with a prototype thingy, using this poem by Margaret Atwood as inspiration for an initial design. (Of course, thanks to Kaix, I do in fact now know it is an Atwood poem.) Anyway, I started calling the experiment Project Fish Hook.

In its previous incarnation, the words were put together with foam lettering I bought from a scrapbooking shop. But now I’ve reworked it for a bit more elegance. Hopefully I find the time within the next couple of weeks to actually produce this piece.

Recently I’ve taken to lugging my MacBook to the office and working on my illustrations when the copywriting is done (occasionally I even make the writing wait). On my desk now, I have one MacBook for words (that would be the white one), and one MacBook for art (my black one). I’ve been feeling a lot more productive.

This drawing is still a work in progress. I put it down on tracing pad some months ago and only recently started drawing it up. It’s nowhere near complete but it’s getting there, and I have maybe another piece to get through. More and more I wish I had a tablet to work with. Unfortunately, I’ve just put down money for a Coach bag…

Coach vs. Wacom… Coach vs. Wacom… tough one.

Update (May 28): An aside to May – I do have them both now, the Coach AND the Wacom. I feel complete.
